Magnitude 4.1 quake hits Negros Occidental

MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 4.1 earthquake struck Negros Occidental on Thursday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the earthquake occurred at 1:29 p.m. Its epicenter was located 13 kilometers northwest of Hinoba-an town.

The following intensities were felt:

  • Intensity IV (moderately strong) - Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental
  • Intensity III (weak) - Sipalay and Cauayan, Negros Occidental
  • Intensity II (slightly felt)- Hinigaran, Negros Occidental; Bawayan City, Negros Oriental

The earthquake was tectonic in origin. It had a depth of 29 kilometers.

Phivolcs said aftershocks are not expected from the earthquake. Likewise, no damage was reported.
