MANILA, Philippines – New People’s Army (NPA) rebels have released a police officer abducted during a police station raid in Zamboanga del Sur a month ago, the military said.

PO2 Faisal Majid Juhaili was released in Barangay Kanipan in Bayog town at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Capt. Albert Caber, spokesman of the Army's 1st Infantry Division.

Caber said the military negotiated Juhaili’s release with the NPA’s Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee, led by a certain Guzman and a certain Luis.

After the release, Caber said the communists fled towards Barangay Dagum also in Bayog town.
Despite the cop’s release, Caber said the rebels will not be spared of charges.

He added that government troops are pursuing the suspects behind the abduction.

“Our pursuit operations are ongoing. We are pursuing them and hold them accountable for their crime," he said.

Juhaili underwent a medical check-up before he was reunited with his family.
He was nabbed by the communist group last April 9.
