TUGUEGARAO - Tuguegarao City Mayor Jefferson Soriano denied Thursday that a lawyer who was gunned down in Bagay Road, San Gabriel Wednesday filed a case against him.
In a statement, Soriano said Atty. Isagani Garcia is the lawyer of councilor Myla Ting who filed the complaints against him before the Office of the Ombudsman.
"The truth of the matter is Atty. Garcia did not file any case against me in the Ombudsman, it was Myla Ting. I just came to know this morning that she was using the office of Attorney Garcia," he said.
Ting earlier filed cases against Soriano – a former police general who is also said to be a business partner of Cedric Lee – which are now with the Office of the Ombudsman.
She is the daughter of ex-Mayor Delfin Ting who lost to Soriano in the last election.
The Sandiganbayan Third Division earlier issued a 90-day preventive suspension order against Tuguegarao City Mayor Jefferson Soriano due to a graft case he is facing in connection with the alleged anomalous purchase of rubber boats worth P131.5 million in 2009.
Soriano, a former deputy director of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and a member of the Magilas Class of 1976 of the Philippine Military Academy, is one of the respondents in the graft case concerning the alleged anomalies in the P131.5 million rubber boats supply deal approved by the PNP in 2009.
His co-accused are erstwhile PNP officials: former Director General Jesus Verzosa; Dep. Dir. Gen. Benjamin Belarmino, Jr.; Directors Ronald Roderos, Luizo Ticman and Romeo Hilomen; and Chief Supts. Herold Ubalde and Villamor Bumanglag.
They are all out after posting P30,000 bail bond each. With a report by Harris Julio, ABS-CBN News
