16 minors rescued from illegal recruiter

MANILA, Philippines – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in Koronadal, South Cotabato rescued 16 teenage girls from a suspected illegal recruiter, an official said.

NBI Region 12 supervising agent Timoteo Rejano said they arrested Mary Anne Linao, a resident of Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat, after attempting to secure NBI clearance for her 16 recruits.

Rejano said they discovered that the birth certificates presented by the recruits were fake.

The recruits then revealed that they were from Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao who were promised by Linao of jobs as domestic helpers in Kuwait.

Authorities are set to file illegal recruitment  charges against Linao.

The victims, on the other hand, have been turned over to the local Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). – report from Noel Alamar, dzMM
