MANILA - Three passengers were killed while 14 others were wounded in a bus accident in Burgos town, Ilocos Norte before dawn on Saturday.
Police said the GMW bus which came from Cagayan was bound for Vigan City, Ilocos Sur when the accident occurred in Barangay Saoit at around 3 a.m.
According to the bus driver, identified as Roel Trinidad, he was caught off guard after something was thrown at his windshield, causing him to lose control of the vehicle.
The bus then plunged into a canal along the national highway.
Police, however, said Trinidad was speeding at the time of the accident.
Trinidad is now under the custody of the police.
The three fatalities were identified as Beverly Palma, Hilda Acobo, and Jing Bacuyag.
The injured passengers, meanwhile, were brought to Bangui District Hospital for treatment.
