MANILA, Philippines - The regional government of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is calling on the Commission on Elections to conduct a general voters registration to cleanse the voters’ list in the region.
ARMM OIC Governor Mujiv Hataman said the regional legislative assembly will pass a resolution requesting the Comelec to conduct a general voters’ registration.
He said it will be the first item on the agenda when the newly sworn-in officers-in-charge of the ARMM Regional Legislative Assembly meets on Thursday.
“Ang gusto naming i-address kasi ‘yung perception na cheating capital ang ARMM kaya ang way namin diyan is magkaroon ng general registration para malinis talaga. At kami mismo sa regional government at buong mamamayan ng ARMM ay handa rin talaga doon sa general registration,” Hataman told reporters after officers-in-charge of the ARMM Regional Legislative Assembly took their oath in Malacañang.
Hataman said that the absence of a general registration would cast doubt on the outcome of the elections in ARMM.
“Magkakaroon talaga [ng doubt] especially after ‘nung census sa revalidation. Nagkakaroon talaga ng significant decrease sa population so ibig sabihin niyan magkakaroon rin ng significant decrease doon sa voters’ registration,” Hataman said.
He said that the regional peace and order council are planning on how to contain or regulate private armed groups in the regions, especially in view of the next elections.
