GENERAL SANTOS CITY - Social workers from the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) on Tuesday rescued a 1-year-old baby after he was sold by his mother for P1,200.
"Baby James" was in poor health and was malnourished when social workers found him.
He was immediately given proper medical attention.
Authorities have yet to trace the child's parents, who are said to be residents of Alabel, Sarangani.
They also warned parents against selling their children, which is against Republic Act 7610, or the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act.
A parent who is found guilty of selling a child can also be charged with child trafficking. -- report from Jay Dayupay, ABS-CBN News SOKSARGEN
