Jeep delivering PCOS machines crashes; 1 killed

MANILA, Philippines – One person was killed while 4 others were hurt when the vehicle carrying the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines for the May 10, 2010 polls met an accident in Bukidnon Thursday afternoon.

The lone fatality was identified as Barangay Chairman Felimon Guinontao. Injured were Board of Election Inspector Analyn Rivel, and election support staff John Paul Sumuoy and Erwin Guinintao and the jeep’s driver, Renator Singgona.

Senior Police Officer 4 Ronaldo Lumpon said the accident happened around 4 p.m. along Manolo Fortich in Bukidnon.

Reports said the Commando-type jeep was on its way to barangay Santiago when its brakes failed, causing to overturn.

The jeep, which was said to be owned by the barangay, was about to deliver PCOS machines to polling centers.
