MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday ordered an incumbent mayor in Bataan province to leave his post.

In its decision, the Comelec en banc upheld the First Division's earlier findings that incumbent Samal town Mayor Rolando Tigas was not the real winner in the mayoral race last May 2007.

The First Division said that based on the results of the revision of ballots in Samal town, Roselier Navarro got more votes than the incumbent mayor.

The Comelec ordered Tigas to turn over the post to Navarro.

Meanwhile, the Comelec en banc disqualified Samal town mayoralty candidate Generoso Dela Fuente.

The en banc said Dela Fuente is not eligible to run for mayor of Samal town because he is currently a US citizen. -- Report from Nelson Lubao, radio dzMM
