Binay takes swipe at Fuentebella rival
NAGA CITY-Vice President Jejomar Binay told residents of Camarines Sur's 4th district not to vote for the rival of former Rep. Felix William "Wimpy" Fuentebella in the congressional race.
Binay did not name names, but in a speech at a proclamation rally on Sunday, described Fuentebella's rival as someone who cannot even speak the local tongue, Bikol, and is not a resident of the district.
"Ni salita, hindi makapagsalita, pagkatapos wala naman sa puso ang manirahan sa kanyang paglilingkuran. 'Yon ba ho ay pagkakatiwalan ninyo?" he told the crowd in Goa town on Sunday night.
Fuentebella, the son of Deputy House Speaker Arnulfo Fuentebella, is running for congressman of the 4th district against actor Aga Muhlach of the Liberal Party.
Muhlach was almost disqualified from running after the Commission on Elections nullified his voter registration because of failing to meet the residency requirement, but the Court of Appeals reversed the poll body's decision.
Binay said voting for Fuentebella's rival would mean putting to waste the good programs that the prominent family has started.
He said Camarines Sur earned the country's respect because of the Fuentebellas' good performance in Congress.
"Kayo bas a pagtulog ninyo, masasabi ba ninyo na 'yong ipapalit-kung papalit man, huwag naman sana-'yong ipapalit bang 'yon ay maipagpapatuloy ang magandang pangalang naiukit ng mga Fuentebella?" Binay said. "Tanungin n'yo ang inyong mga sarili. Hindi ba't saying ang naumpisahan ng mga Fuentebella kung ang papalit sa kanila ay ang kasalukuyan nilang kalaban?"
Binay also cited the younger Fuentebella's performance as commissioner of the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board and assistant secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council.
