MANILA, Philippines – A military convoy was hit by a roadside bomb explosion while on its way to a Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machines' hub in Masbate province on Thursday morning.
Military spokesman Major Harold Cabunjoc the military convoy, including a KM 450 truck and an armored personnel carrier carrying 12 personnel, was on a road in Sitio Busay, Barangay Pawikan in Palanas town when it was hit by a landmine explosion around 10:35 a.m..
Cabunjoc said the convoy was sent to Masbate to provide security for the delivery of PCOS machines stored in a hub in the province.
He said the blast damaged the military truck's windshield. No one was hurt in the blast.
He said the landmine could have been planted by New People's Army (NPA) rebels.
The military spokesman added that the incident was the 5th in a series of NPA ambuscades on government forces in the province this year.
Cabunoc the military will continue aiding the Commission on Elections in making sure that the elections will push through in the province despite the lingering threat of the rebels. -- Report from Noel Alamar, dzMM
