ILOILO – Members of the Iloilo Provincial Police Office arrested a barangay chairman of Calao in Dumangas, Iloilo on Friday due to his involvement in the illegal drug trade.

Village chief Teofisto Gomez was caught inside his house along with three other people identified as Judy Demafiles, Michael Libo and Mark Jason Diamante during the operation.

Authorities recovered six big packs of shabu, digital weighing scale, M-16 Armalite rifle, .40 caliber pistol, and several other drug paraphernalia inside Gomez’s house.

Gomez admitted his involvement in illegal drugs, saying he was just influenced by his peers.

Operatives from IPPO believe there is a syndicate group operating in the said town. They are now planning to further pursue other individuals or groups involve in the illegal drug trade in Dumangas.

Authorities are now preparing charges against the suspects for violation of Republic Act 9165 also known as the Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

PDEA agents were able to penetrate three houses in Barangay Bakhaw Mandurriao, Iloilo city used as drug dens, authorities said.

Several drug paraphernalia and shabu residue were recovered in the area. However, the two subjects of the drug operation identified as Ondoy Prevendido and Alias “Onyok” were able to evade arrest.

PDEA said the suspects installed CCTV cameras in several strategic locations in order to monitor the persons coming inside the drug dens. These CCTVs and recorders including the air gun which were found inside the house of Prevendido were confiscated by PDEA agents.

Barangay chairman Remia Prevendido-Gregori, who is also the aunt of Ondoy, vehemently denied she has knowledge of her nephew's involvement in illegal drugs.

Prior to the operation, authorities arrested Jeffrey Lerona in a buy-bust operation at the said barangay. Recovered from his possession were sachets of shabu and buy bust money.
