MANILA -- A village official in South Upi, Maguindanao, was shot dead by still unidentified suspects on Thursday morning, police said.
Authorities said the victim, Perfecto Travilla, and his group were on board a private jeep when the gunmen fired at their vehicle.
The 44-year-old Travilla, chairman of Barangay Pandan, was killed along with his relatives Jason Mundo, 16, and Alex Tumbaga , 29.
A certain Analyn Bonito, who was with Travilla's group, was hurt in the incident.
The South Upi municipal government said they have coordinated with the Philippine Marines who immediately responded to the incident.
Authorities are conducting pursuit operations following reports that the assailants are still in the area.
The motive for the killings remains unknown.—report from ABS-CBN News Central Mindanao
