LAGUNA -- Two suspected robbers were killed in separate encounters with the police in Laguna on Thursday, authorities said.
Calamba police said several law enforcers were on a surveillance operation when they noticed 3 suspicious-looking men in a dimly lit part of Barangay Singko in Calamba City.
The policemen continued with their operation but the suspects suddenly fired at them. An exchange of gunfire ensued.
One of the suspects, identified as Abel Lorica Jr., died on the spot. Authorities recovered a caliber .38 handgun from Lorica.
Police Sr. Insp. Rogel Sarreal sustained 4 gunshot wounds in the leg. He was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
In a follow-up operation, authorities cornered another suspect, identified as Kenneth Morales, alias "Boneknek," inside a house in Golden City Subdivision, Barangay Dila, Sta. Rosa City Thursday afternoon.
According to the police, they tried to arrest Morales but he fired at them. They returned fire, killing the suspect.
Authorities are still looking for the third suspect, known only as alias "Menor." The 3 are believed to be members of a robbery-holdup group operating in Calamba City. -- report from Cesca Joves, ABS-CBN News Southern Tagalog
