ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The death toll in the Joaquin Enriquez Sports Complex in Zamboanga City continues to increase as evacuees suffer from congestion and poor sanitary conditions in the evacuation area.
According to the latest report from the City Health Office, the death toll in the evacuation area is now at 111.
Most of the victims died of illnesses that they contracted from other evacuees.
The city government is rushing the construction of permanent shelters for the displaced families.
Foreign funded agencies are also helping the government in building permanent shelters.
The City Planning Office said they will open the bidding for the P40 million housing project this week, followed by the other identified resettlement areas.
They will also start buying more lands for the displaced families. -- report from Jewel Reyes, ABS-CBN News Zamboanga
