MANILA, Philippines – Two people were killed and three others were badly injured after a van rammed into a kalesa or horse carriage in Solana, Cagayan on Sunday.
Initial police investigations said the horse carriage was parked at the side of street in Barangay Nangalisan when a Hi-Ace van, which was on its way to Tuguegarao City, collided into it.
Because of the impact of the collision, the horse carriage was dragged several meters away from where it was parked.
The casualties were identified as the carriage's driver Valentine Mabborang, 54, and its passenger Natividad Bago, 70.
Injured were Maryjane Darauan, Aldritz Placido and Philip Andrew Baltazar.
It was fortunate, however, that no one among the passengers of the van were hurt.
Daniel Sasauay, the driver of the van, is currently under the custody of the Solana police. He is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide, multiple serious physical injuries and damage to property. – from a report by Mary Soliva, ABS-CBN News Cagayan Valley
