MANILA, Philippines (1st UPDATE) - Former Batangas Governor Armando Sanchez slipped into a coma after collapsing during a campaign sortie in Lipa, Batangas, Monday noon.

Dr. Isagani Bolompo, official medical spokesman of the Mary Mediatrix Center in Lipa City, said Sanchez is in critical condition after a rupture of the vessel in the brain led to hematoma.

He said the next 72 hours will be critical for Sanchez because of the low 5-10% survival rate.

After learning about Sanchez's condition, around 20 of his supporters immediately trooped to the hospital to show their support for their candidate. They are praying for his immediate recovery.

The next press conference is expected at 9 pm on Tuesday.
