Mayor's daughter killed in Lanao del Norte ambush

MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – At least 12 people died and nine were wounded in an ambush in Lanao del Norte on Thursday afternoon.

Adnani Manamparan, daughter of Nunungan Mayor Abdul Malik Manamparan, died in the attack, which took place in Barangay Malaig, Nunungan, Lanao del Norte.

Mayor Manamparan was wounded in the attack.

Manamparan, his relatives and supporters were on their way home from a campaign sortie on board a dumptruck when they were attacked by unidentified armed men.

In an interview on DZMM, Lanao del Norte Police Provincial Director Senior Superintendent Gerardo Rosales said they suspect the motive for the attack was “rido” or a clan war.

He said the Manamparan family had a clash with another clan and that the Manamparans have suspects as to who was behind the ambush.

The injured were brought to hospitals in Lala, Lanao del Norte and Iligan City.
