DOJ probe on murdered Italian priest continues
MANILA, Philippines - Justice Secretary Leila de Lima on Thursday said the government will continue its investigation on the murder of Father Fausto "Pops" Tentorio, an Italian priest killed in Kidapawan City in Cotabato in October 2011.
De Lima and DOJ Undersecretary Francisco Baraan met with Italian Ambassador Luca Fornari, lawyer Greg Andolana and Tentorio's colleague Fr. Peter Jeremia on Thursday.
The group sought a meeting with de Lima to follow up on the case.
The National Bureau of Investigation joined them in the meeting.
De Lima she told the group that the government is further investigating and validating the identities of suspects in the case.
She said investigators have 3 angles in the killing -- local politics, local mining and local businesses, and possible military involvement because of some of Tentorio's advocacies.
De Lima, however, did not give further details so as not to compromise the investigation.
She said investigators may have initially erred in the identities of the masterminds.
Fr. Jeremia said they are satisfied with the briefing and progress of the investigation to hold accountable those responsible for the killing.
