CEBU CITY -- A security guard has been charged with murder after he allegedly shot and killed his British employer in Malapascua Island, Daanbantayan, Cebu on Black Saturday (April 19).
Anthony Gilchrist, 34, of England was found dead in his dive shop and resort with multiple gunshot wounds in his head and body.
PO3 Alfredo Mandal, chief investigator of Daanbantayan Police Station, said that some resort employees heard the two having a heated argument.
The suspect, identified as Melchor Alciso Jr., admitted in an interview with the media that he got angry at Gilchrist after he allegedly pointed his finger and shouted at him, prompting him to pull out his .38 revolver and shoot the foreigner 6 times.
However, authorities found out that Alciso came in late for his duty and was allegedly drunk, causing Gilchrist to get mad.
Cebu Vice Governor Agnes Magpale fears the incident might affect tourism in Malapascua.
The island is known for its peaceful environment and is a popular tourist destination because of its beach resorts.
Magpale assured that the provincial government will help the victim's family in monitoring the case, following the latter's visit to the Cebu Capitol Tuesday afternoon.
