MANILA, Philippines – Road accidents over the weekend left 44 people injured in Romblon, La Union and Benguet, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Monday.
The NDRRMC said 25 people were injured in Romblon after a jeepney (DWX 636), driven by Cresencio Malavega, plunged into a cliff in Barangay Palije, Romblon town at around 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The jeepney fell into the cliff with a height of between 20 and 30 feet after Malavega allegedly lost control of the vehicle while traversing a curved portion of the road.
The victims were rushed to Romblon District Hospital for treatment.
Three of the injured were in serious condition. They were Flordeliza dela Cruz, 68; Milagros Muyo, 68; and Kathleen dela Cruz, 21.
In La Union, 12 passengers were injured after a Baguio Bus Line bus (AVW 176) turned on its side at a curved portion of Naguilian Road in Sitio Gabor, Barangay Old Poblacion, Burgos town at around 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Meanwhile, a Dagupan-bound Isuzu jeep (VBK 965) carrying 23 passengers rammed a building in Tuba, Benguet last Friday (April 13), leaving seven injured.
Driver Danilo Cerna allegedly lost control of the vehicle after its brakes failed along a road in Sitio Badiwan, Barangay Poblacion at around 6:10 p.m.
