BATANGAS - Five men were found dead inside their vehicle in Laurel town early Monday morning, police said.
Batangas Police Director Sr. Supt. Omega Jireh Fidel identified the victims as Joebert Lincallo, Dante Mayuga, Manolito Cudra, Michael Palbacal and Exequiel Marimat, all residents of Luksuhin Ibaba, Alfonso, Cavite.
According to the police, Efren Dumpao, a security guard of Laurel Municipal Hospital, happened to pass by the provincial road and found the owner-type jeep with plate number DSL-353 at the roadside in Barangay Ticub around 5 a.m.
When he checked the vehicle, he discovered the five victims with gunshot wounds on their heads and several stab wounds in their bodies.
Police said residents near the crime scene heard gunshots at around 3 a.m.
Fidel said they are looking into robbery as the motive of the shooting since the P50,000 cash of the victims was missing.
He said the victims had just attended a wake in Laurel town and were heading home to Alfonso, Cavite when they were tailed by unidentified suspects and waylaid in Barangay Ticub.
Police recovered 7 pieces of spent shells from a 9mm pistol from the crime scene.
Probers have yet to determine the suspects behind the crime.
Authorities will also look for other possible angles on the motive of the shooting.
