Probe on into North Cotabato blast

MANILA, Philippines – Investigations are ongoing after an explosion in Aleosan, North Cotabato killed three people and wounded 33 others.

The explosion occurred in a cockpit Saturday afternoon in the run up to a village fiesta.

One person died on the spot, while two others were rushed to the hospital and were declared dead on arrival.

The local government had sought the help of the Philippine National Police and the military to beef up security in the area which is a mixed community of Christians and Muslims.

Aleosan Mayor Loreto Cabaya said the government wants to ease tension between the two groups whose conflicts have turned bloody in the past.

Meanwhile, the local government unit (LGU) called a municipal peace and order council meeting to address the situation.

The LGU said it has extended assistance to the families of the victims. – ANC
