Grenade blast hits electric co-op in Batangas
MANILA, Philippines – Unidentified suspects hurled a grenade at the office of Batangas Electric Cooperative (BATELEC 2) in Laurel, Batangas early Saturday.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
The grenade blast damaged the door and wall of the establishment as well as an owner-type jeep parked outside.
Police said the suspects, who were reportedly onboard a motorcycle, threw a hand grenade at the parking lot at around 1:25 a.m.
Atty. Natalio Panganiban, director of BATELEC 2, believes that the incident was politically-motivated because of his plans to run for mayor of Laurel in the 2013 elections.
He suspects that he was the target of the attack.
Police, meanwhile, are investigating if BATELEC’s operations have something to do with the incident. -- Report from Sarita Kare, ABS-CBN Southern Tagalog
