Phivolcs: No tsunami would hit PH's eastern seaboard

MANILA - Philippine Institute of Volcanology and seismology (Phivolcs) announced on its advisory that no destructive tsunami will result from the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that took place off Solomon Islands at the South Pacific on Sunday.

From the released tsunami advisory at 4:49 a.m. on Sunday, Philvolcs said no tsunami shall take place at the eastern seaboard of the Philippines.

Despite the danger that a tsunami will result from the earthquake, it will only affect the vicinity near Solomon Islands and nearby countries that has a distance of 100 kilometers from the epicenter.

The Philippines is more than 1,000 kilometers away from the center of the earthquake.

Advisory from the foreign affairs on the condition of Filipinos in Solomon Islands have yet to be released.
