MANILA, Philippines (2nd UPDATE) – Three people were killed and 16 others were injured in an explosion in North Cotabato on Wednesday morning.

North Cotabato Police Chief Senior Superintendent Cornelio Salinas said they are looking into extortion and business feud as possible motives behind Wednesday’s blast.

An improvised explosive device was planted inside a Rural Transit bus (KVS 740) that stopped by a terminal in Carmen town past 10 a.m.

The bus originated from Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat and was bound for Cagayan de Oro City.

Salinas said a witness had identified one of the bombers through their rogues gallery. He said the police will file the appropriate charges against the suspect.

“[He is one] of the same people who have staged IED explosions against the Rural Transit buses. We can file a case [against him] anytime from today or tomorrow,” Salinas told ANC.

Salinas said some of the 16 injured victims remain confined at the hospital after sustaining severe blast wounds.
