MANILA, Philippines – Authorities have put up a P100,000 reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of the killers of the president of the Universidad de Zamboanga.

Police also said the killing of Arturo Eustaquio III on Sunday could be related to his position or a personal grudge.

Two unidentified gunmen shot Eustaquio on Sunday afternoon near his house in Maestra Vicenta in Sta. Maria.

Eustaquio was rushed to a private hospital he owns but doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Senior Superintendent Edwin De Ocampo, Zamboanga City Police Director, said they already have witnesses who can identify the attackers.

"Syempre president siya ng eskwelahan, kakausapin natin yun mga co-workers niya at yung pamilya. As of now nagbigay ng statement yung pamilya na after na lang ng libing niya [sila magsasalita]," said de Ocampo.

Meanwhile, Zamboanga City Mayor Celso Lobregat said the assailants could have been hired.

"Archie (Eustaquio) has been going around in his motorcycle without any bodyguards. It is hard to pre-determine that this would happen," Lobregat said.

Eustaquio is scheduled to be buried today. – ANC
