CAPIZ, Philippines - Eight people were killed in flashfloods that hit Capiz province last week, authorities said on Monday.
A total of 170 barangays in 17 towns were affected by the flashfloods, according to provincial disaster managerment officials.
In Pontevedra town, the floods swamped 14 villages amid the heavy rains, forcing hundreds of families to leave for safer areas.
Some the villagers returned to their homes on Monday and started cleaning their houses.
The town hall was not spared by the flashfloods.
Local officials plan to place the town under a state of calamity to fastrack relief and rehabilitation efforts.
