BATANGAS -- Two children died while another man is missing after their boat capsized in Taal Lake in San Nicholas, Batangas.

The victims were on their way home from a graduation ceremony in Balete town when the accident occurred.

Those who died were Joseph Medina, 2; and Krisha Marie Ramos, 4, both residents of Barangay Alas-as.

According to the survivors, a child tried to reach for a balloon floating on the lake, causing the boat to lose balance and overturn.

The police believe that the boat may have been overloaded as it can only carry four to five passengers.

The police, the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) are still looking for another passenger, 66-year old Lorenzo de Villa, Jr.

The PCG has stopped its search and rescue operation as of this posting because the area where the incident occurred is too deep. They are also having difficulties with visibility in the area. -- report from Arnell Ozaeta, DZMM
