ILOILO CITY - A would-be car thief who tried to steal a taxi did not push through with the robbery because he did not know how to drive.

Taxi driver Reynato Espino said the suspect, who was later identified as a third year high school student, boarded his taxi in Jalandoni, Jaro.

He told Espino to bring him to Iloilo City Hall where his mother works.

However, upon approaching Rizal Street, the suspect pulled out a gun and announced a hold-up.

The minor attempted to take away the vehicle but failed because he does not know how to drive.

Police arrested the would-be car thief, identified only as alias "Boy." Authorities said Boy had a replica of a caliber .45 pistol, rope, and gloves during the arrest.

The minor was brought to the Children and Women's Desk.

The taxi driver said he would no longer pursue a case after talking with the boy's parents.
