BATANGAS -- The driver of a Southern Carrier bus involved in an accident on the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx) tested negative for drug use on Wednesday.

Sulpicio Maranan went through a drug test after authorities found drug paraphernalia beside the bus' driver's seat.

After the results were released, he insisted he does not own the items found inside the bus.

He also showed up at the Highway Patrol Group's office on Wednesday to prove that he is not hiding from authorities.

Marasigan added that he was not the man with a red bag seen on closed-circuit television (CCTV) camera footage. The man on the video rode another bus immediately after the accident.

He insisted that what happened was an accident and that it was not his fault. He said he has been driving since 1979 and this was the first time he got into an accident.

Authorities are still looking for the owner of the drug paraphernalia and the beer bottles found inside the bus. -- report from Ernie Manio, DZMM
