CEBU - Two days after the arrest of Benito and Wilma Tiamzon, tension has eased among residents of Barangay Zaragosa in Aloguinsan, Cebu.

They were alarmed when police and soldiers ordered them to stay at their houses few minutes before communist leaders Benito and Wilma Tiamzon were arrested on Saturday afternoon.

Carcar police also blocked roads in the area.

Insp. Bonifacio Pareja, Carcar police deputy director for operations, said the Tiamzons and 5 others who were also arrested surrendered peacefully.

"Zero resistance, although at first they hesitated to open the car door," he said.

Zaragosa barangay captain Rogelio Ybanez said the presence of New People's Army rebels (NPA) was a big problem in their area in the 1990s

However, NPA presence in the village disappeared as years passed, he added.
