MANILA -- Four fishermen were rescued after their boat capsized in the waters off Loreto, Dinagat Islands before dawn on Friday.
The fishermen, who went to Homonhon, Samar, were on their way back to Surigao City when their boat suddenly capsized due to the huge waves brought about by tropical depression "Caloy" past 1 a.m.
The fishermen were identified as Genie Comendador, 55; Jic Comendador, 25; Felix Quiñonez, 20; and Ronald Calaycay, 30. All four are residents of Barangay San Juan in Surigao City.
After their boat sank, they were able to swim towards the shore of Barangay Pamanaon in Loreto, where they were spotted by authorities.
Loreto Municipal Councilor Alfonso Gajol said the fishermen will be brought back to Surigao City on Saturday.
Meanwhile, authorities have yet to find the fishermen's sunken vessel. -- Report from Rodge Cultura, ABS-CBN News Caraga
