MANILA, Philippines – A midwife who was kidnapped in Patikul, Sulu last Monday has been released by her captors, the military said.

Roselyn Kiram was freed in Barangay Darayan, Patikul at around 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to the Naval Forces Western Mindanao.

Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao Officer-in-Charge Governor Mujiv Hataman believes Kiram was kidnapped to give medical assistance to wounded members of terrorist group Abu Sayyaf.

The military suspects that the group of alleged Abu Sayyaf leader Ninok Sapari was behind the abduction.

Kiram was kidnapped with 5 health workers while heading to Jolo. The health workers were released earlier. -- Report from Queenie Casimiro, ABS-CBN News Zamboanga
