GENERAL SANTOS CITY -- A provincial jail guard found out what life is like behind bars after he was arrested by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) for allegedly selling methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu, in an entrapment operation in General Santos City on Tuesday.
The suspect was identified as as Rex Morsal, 35 years old, a guard assigned at the Sarangani Provincial Jail and a resident of Malapatan, Sarangani Province.
PDEA officers arrested Morsal after he was caught red-handed selling a plastic sachet of shabu to an agent at a hospital along Quezon Avenue, Barangay Dadiangas North, General Santos City past 9:00 in the morning.
"What is ironic is that Morsal put into jeopardy the discipline instituted in correctional facilities. His job is to keep prisoners under tight watch while in custody, not engage in illegal drug activities. Now he finds out what life is like spending time in jail," PDEA Director General Arturo Cacdac Jr. said in a statement Thursday.
Morsal will be charged for violation of Section 5 (Sale of Dangerous Drugs) and Section 11 (Possession of Dangerous Drugs), Article II, of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
