3 suspects in foiled bus rob in Leyte nabbed

LEYTE – Three men who allegedly tried to rob passengers of a shuttle bound for Ormoc, Leyte and killed one policeman were arrested by authorities on Thursday.

Chief Insp. Joel Camacho, chief of police of Palo, Leyte, identified the suspects as Christian Colinares 26; Jonathan Gariando 26; and Zandro Almerino, 30.

The three, along with a still unidentified cohort, attempted to rob passengers of a bus in Brgy. Libertad Palo. Unknown to them, there was a police officer, PO3 Samuel Otivar, on board, who fought with one of the suspects which led to their death.

Recovered from the suspects’ possession were one home-made shotgun, 4 knives, a .45 caliber pistol, and ammunition. They were arrested in Barangay Bulod in Sta Fe, Leyte.

Camacho said a concerned citizen tipped off the police about the presence of the suspects in the area, who were seen carrying guns. They did not resist arrest.

They are detained at the Palo jail and are scheduled for inquest Friday morning. -- From a report by Sharon Evite and Geron Ponferrada, ABS-CBN News
