MANILA, Philippines – A 7-year-old girl succumbed to meningococcemia in Kibawe, Bukidnon province.

Chief nurse Francisca Batistil of the Bukidnon Provincial Hospital–Kibawe said Imae Ampoloquio was brought to the medical facility on Monday afternoon.

However, the girl died about two hours after she was admitted in the hospital.

The hospital has coordinated with the Rural Health Office to check on Ampoloquio’s neighbors in Purok 6, Barangay Kiorao.

The hospital has been disinfected and patients who were near the patient were given prophylaxis.

Likewise, health authorities urged the victim’s parents to immediately bury the remains to prevent others from being infected.

Among the symptoms of the disease are fever, presence of red or purple rash, headache, muscle pain, nausea and vomiting.
