A major airport in Tacloban City announced this week that it will host a new airline company.

Tacloban Daniel Z. Romualdez (DZR) airport manager Merla Negradas said that Zest Air, formerly Asian Spirit, is set to have its 'proving' flight or test flight this Thursday. The airline company will offer Tacloban-Manila and Manila-Tacloban flights this month.

"This only shows that there is good air traffic in this airport. More and more passengers are coming," Negradas said.

The airport is also accommodating flights en route to Manila or Cebu via Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific.

Negradas said more passengers are now using the Calbayog and Catarman airports, which opened to commercial flights November last year.

Other airports in the region, such as the Catbalogan airport and Guiuan airport in Samar, meanwhile, are still closed from commercial use because of a lack of facilities or because they are closed for renovation.

Negradas said the closed airport could still be used in times of emergency.
