Fire razes house in Calamba; 1 dead

CALAMBA CITY -- A fire broke out in a house in Brgy. San Jose, Calamba City in Laguna early Monday morning.

According to Calamba Police Station, the house is owned by a certain Ronald Mendoza.

The fire broke out at around 2:50 a.m. and was put out after two hours, at around 4:40 a.m.

A victim, identified as Rona Cherry Mendoza, 27, was found dead inside one of the rooms in the burned house.

The victim died of suffocation, according to City Health Officer Dra. Cora Tayer.

The fire caused almost P500,000 in property damage.

The Bureau of Fire Protection is investigating the cause of the fire. -- report from Ronilo Dagos, DZMM
