Four New People’s Army (NPA) rebels were killed and a soldier was injured in separate skirmishes between the insurgents and government forces in Mindanao, military officials reported yesterday.

At around 9 a.m. Wednesday, two rebels died when forces of the 5th Scout Ranger Company caught up with the insurgents at the village of Casoon in Monkayo, Compostela Valley.

Col. Edgardo de Leon, operations officer of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division, said 2 rebels died in the encounter. A soldier, Pfc. Jindrix Iman, was wounded in the clash and is currently under treatment.

Two and a half hours later, de Leon said elements of the 6th Scout Ranger Company clashed with another group of rebels at the boundary of Colonbasak village in Matanao, Davao del Sur and Sinapulan village in Columbio, Sultan Kudarat.

At around 2 p.m. also on Wednesday, de Leon said troops from the 101st Division Reconnaissance Company encountered an NPA cadre at the Sitio Tagaytay in Mipangi village in Nabuntaran, Compostela Valley.

The brief clash resulted in the killing of one of the rebels, whose body was recovered by the operating troops.

In Agusan del Sur. soldiers from the Army’s 403rd Brigade clashed with about 15 rebels at La Purisima village in Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur around 5:45 p.m. last Tuesday, said Army chief Lt. Gen. Arturo Ortiz, quoting belated reports.
