MANILA – An elementary school teacher who was abducted Wednesday in Patikul, Sulu has been released, a military official said.
Capt. Ryan Lacuesta, civil military operations officer of the 2nd Marine Brigade based in Jolo town, said victim Alrashid Jalang was released at around 9 a.m. on Thursday "through the joint efforts of the local government unit and relatives of the victims."
Jalang, a teacher at Taglibi Elementary School, was released in Barangay Kadday Mampallam after his relatives negotiated with the captors' relatives.
"According dito sa mga information na na-recieve natin, [na-release ang biktima] through negotiation between the relatives of the victims and relatives ng mga allegedly na kumuha sa kanya kahapon," Lacuesta said.
Lacuesta said he has no information whether ransom was paid for Jalang's release.
He said operations are ongoing to capture the abductors who are alleged members of the Abu Sayyaf.
"They will have to be held accountable dun sa ginawa nila… Ongoing yung ginagawa nating pursuit operation sa mga ito," he said.
Jahang was the fifth to be taken by the Abu Sayyaf group in a week following the abduction last Monday of two children and their two helpers in Jolo.
