BACOLOD CITY - The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) has issued a cease and desist order on the construction of a rest house owned by Murcia Mayor Andrew Montelibano in the town of Don Salvador Benedicto in Negros Occidental.

The order stated that it is considered as an illegal structure because it is located within the Northern Negros Natural Park, which is a protected area as declared under Presidential Proclamation No. 895.

The said construction is also in violation of the National Integrated Protected Area System.

Atty. Jose Maria Valencia, the chief of staff of the Office of the Governor, said charges could be filed against Montelibano if he defies the order of the DENR.

Montelibano said he will follow the order but questions the order of DENR.

He noted that among the other structures which also stand in the said area, he was the only one who has received the order.

He is suspecting that politics might be behind this move.
