An official of the Cavite provincial government and his driver were shot dead by a suspected hired killer in front of bank in Trece Martires City, Tuesday afternoon.
Superintendent Reynaldo Galam, city police chief, said Napoleon Gatmaitan and his driver, Benny Guanzon, had just came out of MetroBank branch along Governor's Drive in Barangay San Agustin, around 5:20 p.m. when a lone gunman approached and shot them both to the chest with a 9mm pistol.
Gatmaitan, director of the Cavite government's registry of deeds division, and Guanzon both fell dead to the ground as the gunman escaped on a motorcycle, the police chief said.
A police autopsy report said Gatmaitan and the driver both died of gunshot wounds in the chest. The gunman used a 9mm pistol, Galam said.
Galam said the gunman could have followed the victims from the provincial capitol up to the bank.
Based on witnesses' description of the suspect, the gunman is 28 to 30 years old, slim and fair complexioned.
Galam said the killer could have been hired by someone engaged in a land dispute in the province. -- report from Dominic Almelor, ABS-CBN News
