MANILA, Philippines – A 27-year-old woman was killed Wednesday while descending from Mt. Batulao in Nasugbu, Batangas.
Police said the victim, Diana Fajardo, fell to her death after she slipped and tumbled 250 feet down a cliff around 11 a.m.
She was a first-time hiker. Fajardo, together with 5 of her friends, came from Cainta, Rizal to trek on the mountain.
The victim’s friends said they stopped to take a photograph at Peak 8 of Mt. Batulao’s New Trail when Fajardo lost her balance.
The victim’s father Rolando said his daughter told him that she was going to Batangas with her friends, but did not tell him they were going hiking.
Investigations by police revealed that the group was not accompanied by a guide.
Fajardo’s companions declined to comment on the incident. -- Report from Carolyn Bonquin, ABS-CBN News Southern Luzon
