ZAMBOANGA CITY (UPDATED) -- A presiding judge based in Zamboanga City was shot dead by motorcycle-riding gunmen along Narra Drive, Tugbungan on Friday morning.
The chief of police of Tetuan Police Station, Chief Inspector Felix Martinez, identified the victim as Reynerio Estacio Sr., assigned in Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 14.
Martinez said the victim, along with his wife Teresita, was driving on the way to the office when their vehicle was fired upon several times by the suspects using .45-caliber pistols.
Estacio sustained multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body.
He was rushed to the nearest hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
His wife was unharmed.
Hot pursuit operations are now ongoing against the two suspects.
Meanwhile, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Zamboanga, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi (ZamBaSulTa) Chapter condemned the killing of Estacio.
IBP Vice President Atty. Gian Paulo Enriquez challenged the police officers of Zamboanga City to resign from their post if they cannot resolve the crime.
