Accountant killed in payroll heist in Bulacan

MANILA -- An accountant was shot dead outside her home just after she withdrew payroll money in Guiguinto, Bulacan on Friday morning, police said.

The victim, identified as Evelinda Tamares, had just come home from the Metrobank branch in Balagtas, Bulacan when the robbery and shooting incident occurred at around 10:45 a.m.

According to her driver, Percival Dimalanta, at least three men approached Tamares after she got off the vehicle outside her house in Violeta Subdivision in Guiguinto.

Dimalanta said the men then pointed a gun at Tamares, took the money, and shot her.

The suspects also fired at Dimalanta and Tamares' sister, Juliet Advento, who was with them at the time of the incident. Fortunately, they were able to avoid the shots.

The suspects immediately fled on board two motorcycles.

Guiguinto Bulacan Police Chief Superintendent Ernesto Cruz said Tamares sustained two gunshot wounds in the chest.

The victim was rushed to the Bulacan Polymedic Hospital but was declared dead.

Police said around P150,000 worth of payroll money was carted away by the still unidentified suspects. -- Report from Jake Morales, dzMM
