MANILA – The driver of the tourist bus that slammed into an 18-wheeler truck in Benguet has been sent to jail.
Roger Albayalde, who was badly injured in the fatal crash, was transferred from the Baguio General Hospital to the Benguet Provincial Jail at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Albayalde’s brother, Efren, said his brother is still recuperating and is still unable to give a statement.
Efren said his brother is used to driving long trips, but encountered problems when the brakes malfunctioned.
Albayalde may post bail of P70,000 but Efren said they cannot afford it.
He is facing charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property, multiple physical injuries and multiple homicide.
Albayalde’s wife is expected to arrive in Benguet from Hong Kong on Thursday.
Albayalde was driving a bus carrying students of Marinduque State College in the vicinity of Sitio Bontiway, Barangay Poblacion in Tuba when it slammed head-on to the 18-wheeler truck.
