MANILA -- Alleged rice smuggling king Davidson Bangayan was admitted in Laoag City General Hospital in Ilocos Norte and is still under observation, said the city's hospital director.
Bangayan was admitted Sunday for diarrhea and backache. He immediately underwent several tests, and results showed that he is suffering from acute lumbar sprain and hypertensive cardiovascular disease.
However, Dr. Francis Dacuycuy, hospital director, said that Bangayan is getting better, although they are not yet sure when he'll be released from the hospital.
The doctor added that Bangayan refused to accept interviews or to show himself to reporters.
Dacuycuy also said that Bangayan did not say why he was in Ilocos, adding that he probably went there for a vacation.
Bangayan was supposed to attend a Senate hearing today but failed after he was hospitalized. -- report from Randy Menor, ABS-CBN News Ilocos
