13 hurt in 9-vehicle smash-up in NLEX

MANILA, Philippines – Thirteen people were injured in a nine-vehicle smash-up along the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) in San Fernando, Pampanga Saturday afternoon.

A Mitsubishi Montero, Pajero, KIA Pride, Ford Everest, Hyundai, three other cars and a Bataan Transit bus were involved in the accident which occurred at least 500 meters away from the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX) exit.

The victims, who sustained minor injuries, were brought to a hospital in San Fernando.

Personnel of the toll management have yet to remove all vehicles from the area.

The accident has caused a massive traffic gridlock along the northbound lane of NLEx, prompting the management to open the emergency lane for other motorists.

Authorities have yet to identify the cause of the smash-up. Investigations are still ongoing. -- Reports from Carl Balita and Robert Mano, dzMM
