NEGROS – The Diocese of Bacolod urged voters in Negros to junk 4 bets from the administration ticket who they deemed as "anti-life" senatorial aspirants due to their support for the controversial Reproductive Health law.
Senators Francis ‘Chiz’ Escudero, Loren Legarda, Alan Peter Cayetano and former Akbayan Rep. Risa Hontiveros from Team PNoy were included on the list which the diocese dubbed as "Team Patay".
Also included on the list are Cagayan Rep. Jack Enrile from UNA and Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casino from Makabayan.
The diocese, meanwhile, urged voters to support candidates who they deem as “pro-life,” such as Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV, Sen. Koko Pimentel III and former Las Pinas Rep. Cynthia Villar. All 3 are on the administration's slate.
Sen. Gringo Honasan, San Juan Rep. JV Ejercito and Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay round out the list which the diocese called "Team Buhay".
Sen. Legarda has clarified that the RH law is not in favor of abortion.
Cynthia Villar, meantime, respects the church's opinion and said they are entitled to it.
She maintains she is “pro-life” just like her husband, Sen. Manny Villar.
Drilon said they are saddened by the move of the Bacolod diocese.
Drilon said they will continue to appeal to the people and explain to them that the President handpicked the candidates to continue the reforms.
Drilon also insists that the RH law is a balanced law.
